Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.     Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.    We currently have an opportunity for a Finance Officer in Canberra to work on Space projects.       What You’ll Do      This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:    * Manage, monitor and report on Defence financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and effective oversight of financial activities.  * Provide informed financial advice, interpreting legislation, policy and exercising financial delegations appropriately.  * Support process improvement, helping develop and refine procedures to enhance operational efficiency in a changing environment.  * Apply accounting knowledge to conduct objective financial analysis, generating evidence‑based conclusions and resolving issues through expert judgement.  * Raise, maintain and process purchase orders, using ERP systems (or similar platforms) to manage procurement and payment activities effectively.    What You’ll Bring    * Strong financial management capability, including monitoring, analysing and reporting on Defence financial operations, maintaining broadsheets and supporting budget estimate/review processes.  * Sound understanding of financial legislation, policy and delegations, with the ability to provide accurate financial advice and ensure compliance across administrative and operational activities.  * Proficiency in accounting and financial analysis, able to conduct objective, evidence‑based assessments, rephase commitments, manage operating budgets and prepare finance‑related tasking responses.  * Experience with financial systems and procurement tools, including raising and maintaining purchase orders in ERP systems, and supporting CMS acquittals and credit‑card transactions.  * Strong problem‑solving and coordination skills, demonstrating initiative, supporting process improvements, facilitating financial discussions and engaging effectively with stakeholders in a dynamic environment.    Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth.
