JOB SUMMARY

The Costa Rica Controller will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with local and international regulations for Applied Materials Costa Rica. This role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with both local and international stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferably Finance or Accounting,
  • 8+ years’ experience in related field, with at least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Adaptable and responsive to multiple changing business priorities
  • Proficient in document and spreadsheet software packages
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with all levels in organization
  • Ability to motivate, coach and develop others
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Team player – ability to work independently and cross-functionally to accomplish goals
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and accounting standards (US GAAP) preferred
  • Strong understanding of Costa Rican accounting and tax regulations Familiarity with US GAAP and experience working with US parent companies is highly desirable preferred
  • Understanding of FDA regulations surrounding the manufacturing of medical devices, and GMPs preferred
  • Experience with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools preferred
Responsibilities
  • Direct, coordinate, perform activities related to the following:
  • Monthly financial closing, analysis, and reporting
  • Variance development and projection
  • General Accounting
  • Product Cost Development
  • Annual Budget Preparation
  • Payroll Support
  • Tax Compliance
  • Understand and comply with current GAAP, Corporate & plant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper accounting of inventory movement and valuation and full plant financials
  • Maintain Control and Reconciliation of Plant, Property and Equipment and full Balance Sheet
  • Partner with Operations group to proactively ensure key internal controls and proper procedures are established and followed.
  • Primary financial strategic partner for Operations team.
  • Drive and support all financial decisions within Operations. Integral member of Operations Staff. Provide analyses and decision support for operational initiatives. Identify, support and drive operational improvement opportunities. Continually develop and implement tools to track and improve operational and financial performance. Recommend alternatives to key internal customers in terms of action plans to improve results and optimize plans.
  • Continually drive process improvements within Operations Finance team to improve productivity, accuracy and timeliness of results, plans and analyses.
  • Coordinate and perform variance analysis and forecasting as well as the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) process.
  • Review, analyze and interpret results of operations, identify financial and operational issues and make recommendations for change.
  • Examine, analyze and interpret production variances for manufacturing and financial management.
  • Labor, Burden and Material (LBM) development and maintenance, including cost rolls, bill of material reviews and routings.
  • Inventory valuation and reconciliation including perpetual, WIP, in transit, capitalized variances and excess & obsolete inventory reserves; Includes managing the cycle count and physical inventory processes.
  • Perform special projects and analysis as needed. Respond to corporate requests for data and information timely.
  • Provide analysis for cost reduction initiatives.
  • Partner closely with various Finance COE teams on all submissions and data requests, meeting timeliness and accuracy goals.
  • Supervise and develop Finance Team
  • Handle internal and external Sox and Financial Audits
  • Coordinate cross-functionally within the plant and plant network on common issues
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
