General Summary
The Senior Financial Analyst will primarily support the Canadian operations. This will include budgeting, forecasting, planning, pricing, costing and variance analysis. This will also include supporting overall profitability analysis, and marketing initiatives to drive profitability within our LGOR and Growing Media business. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this hybrid role will require one to two days working in the office, at The Scotts Canada Head Office in Mississauga, Ontario, and working remotely the remaining days. Main responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Work closely with Finance, Operations, Sales and Marketing
- Assist in the review process of commercial finance items, such as rebate agreements, cash flow forecasting, AR aging analysis, etc.
- Pricing and Gross Margin analysis to support pricing decisions either for the master price list or for any ad hoc business opportunities
- Forecast and analyze Distribution and other Supply Chain expenses
- Assist in the implementation of our new pricing platform PriceFX, and administer pricing updates
- Work closely with Finance Manager to perform month-end duties along with monthly forecasts
- Complete reconciliations and analysis, ensuring compliance with close practices (SOX)
- Support the development of the annual operating plan
- Provide variance analysis for business partners to help prioritize risks and opportunities to manage against the annual operating plan
- Develop relationships with business partners in order to communicate relevant information and insights to enhance effectiveness of business plans being developed
- Proactively find ways to streamline business processes and improve efficiency
- Provide analytics, both quantitative & qualitative, to support various business decisions and business development opportunities
- Ad-hoc analysis as required from the business units
Key Work Performed
Planning & Analysis: 40%
- Forecasting and budget, analysis of product pricing, cost, and variance analysis. Analyze monthly results and assist in building the story behind the P&L
- Complete forecast and actual analyses for marketing including Media, Packaging, and POP
- Complete forecast and actual analyses for distribution lines in the P&L including; outbound freight, inbound freight, warehousing and distribution admin (non growing media).
- Support operators with ad hoc analysis as needed.
Pricing and Gross Margin analysis: 30%
- Support the sales and marketing teams on ad hoc pricing and business opportunities.
- Create P&Ls and other analysis to understand new business opportunities. Route these analysis and recommendations through the Canadian Leadership team for approval.
- Complete Stage & Gate P&Ls for new business opportunities.
- Complete margin analyses to understand business profitability and make recommendations for margin improvements
- Ad hoc analysis as requested.
Administration of Price FX/updates and changes to pricing across Canada: 15%
- Maintain Pricing and Procedures within Price FX and ensure that this flows to SAP correctly.
- Load annual price changes in to the Price FX tool and make adjustments to pricing as requested.
- Be the Price FX expert in Canada.
General Accounting Functions: 15%
- Monthly journal entries as required.
- Monthly/quarterly account reconcilliation
Job Specifications (Minimum Requirements)
A. Skill Factors (education, experience, communication, technical, etc.)
- Post-secondary Degree/Diploma
- CPA program either completed or near completion
- 5+ years of progressive experience in financial analysis, manufacturing/CPG experience an asset.
- Highly effective computer skills, with demonstrated knowledge of ERP systems (SAP or other).
- Fluency in English reflecting ability to communicate professionally (in writing and orally using proper grammar and spelling) with internal and external people.
- High proficiency in Excel required.
- Experience with Google Suite, PowerPoint, SAP, Analysis for Office, BI, BPC, Tableau and SOX an asset.
