Primary objective
Support the Accounting Manager to deliver a high standard of financial services, advice and expertise including financial report preparation
and presentation, data analysis and investigation, debt management, financial reconciliation processes and liaison with internal and
external stakeholders.
Context statement
The role is a key member of a small multi-skilled team providing finance and accounting services to internal clients. The role has regular
client contact requiring well developed communication and interpersonal skills, professional client services and is a contact point for the
department’s trust management coordination.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide financial support services to the department, such as accounts payable, financial account reconciliations and debtor, revenue
and credit card management.
2. Provide support and advice to operational staff regarding financial activities and the application of correct accounting and compliance
methodologies.
3. Provide reports and information to assist divisions in their financial management responsibilities.
4. Identify financial issues, anomalies and inconsistencies and resolve and correct as appropriate.
5. Assist senior finance staff as required with departmental financial reporting and governance responsibilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong accounting and financial management skills with demonstrated experience in an accounting or finance role, including an ability
to undertake analysis and provide advice on revenue and expenditure classification.
2. Working knowledge of organisational budget management and financial reporting processes and tools.
3. A high level of honest and integrity with demonstrated strong individual work ethic together with experience working collaboratively
in a small team.
4. Strong interpersonal skills combined with well-developed oral and written communication skills.
5. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining quality standards and accurate administrative records and data entry with the ability to
manage multiple responsibilities, meet competing deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
7. Proven experience and competency in a range of computer systems and software applications, including word processing,
spreadsheets, financial and information management databases.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications or study towards accounting, commerce, or business.
2. Knowledge of the financial management cycles, financial legislation, and systems that influence Public Sector accounting and financial
procedures in the Territory.
