ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • A minimum of four (4) years direct student services experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience in a financial aid environment advising undergraduate students on budgets, OSAP, other financial aid programs and bursaries, and encouraging scholarship and grant applications
  • Experience assessing and processing undergraduate student financial aid applications
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations
  • Sound knowledge of financial aid and related undergraduate academic policies
  • Excellent customer service skills - tact, diplomacy, sound judgement and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills,including listening, facilitating and de-escalating
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and student information system(s)
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle a heavy workload and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems involving individual and group needs and to identify systemic implications and impacts on access and financial aid for students

Responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Advising students on financial aid matters, bursaries, budgeting and personal financial management by probing and providing a range of options and possible outcomes
  • Interpreting and applying academic and government financial aid rules to ensure students meet requirements
  • Providing detailed information to students regarding completing financial aid applications
  • Verifying the accuracy of financial aid entitlements
  • Reviewing and assessing financial aid appeals for acceptability
  • Updating and maintaining procedures and protocols to comply with Federal Government legislation
  • Delivering presentations to promote programs, opportunities and/orinitiatives
  • Providing significant support to individuals in emotional distress during the course of performing regular duties
