FINANCIAL ANALYST

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Finance & Operations, the Financial Analyst is responsible for tracking all system programs funding streams and providing analytical financial support in this area.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 + years of financial analysis and reporting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience in advanced financial analysis, presentation and modelling of model economic scenarios and use of critical thinking to resolve issues
  • Prior experience in the not-for-profit and/or homeless serving system of care sector considered an asset
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 with advanced Excel skills
  • Familiarity with grant management software considered an asset
  • Experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, and
  • Exceptional verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills to convey concepts, statistical, analytical, operational, and financial information
  • Excellent time and resource management skills, with the ability to influence change. Previous experience working successfully with Indigenous Organizations would be an asset
  • Experience with project management with the ability to support complex multi-stakeholder projects
  • Detail oriented, well organized, with excellent oral communication and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex subject matter to various stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve; prioritize assignments to meet deadlines; work independently within the defined parameters of the role; and an ability to take direction from several sources

Responsibilities

Working with the Director, Finance & Operations the Financial Analyst is responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for tracking all program related funding streams and allocations to various contracts and initiatives
  • Support the development of service delivery plans related to financial budget preparation
  • Support the year end audit and fiscal period close ensuring that all financial and program funding data aligns with CHF’s accounting system and audited program statements
  • Support internally with forecasting and preparing annual master system programs budget
  • Work with the Director, Finance & Operations to prepare actual program expenditure reports for funders as required, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting within funding agreement requirements
  • Work with System Planning team to forecast appropriate funding targets for funded programs aligned to relevant benchmarks
  • Provide regular forecasts of program spending to ensure spending does not exceed funding
  • Provide regular reports to communicate the level of program expenditure at any point during the year and ad hoc reports as requested
  • Analyze service provider program budgets for consistency, reasonableness compared to other similar programs and eligibility of costs to provide advice to System Planners in support of annual program contract negotiations
  • Perform budget review and analysis as part of the HSSC Request for Proposal (RFP) process and provide financial support to the decision-making panel
  • Work closely with the Contracts & Documents Specialist to ensure timeliness of contract agreement creation and amendments and develop documentation as required
  • Together with the Director, Finance & Operations, support the HSSC leadership team as needed with financial data reports, management reports and other ad-hoc financial reporting/analysis
  • Support the Director, Finance & Operations with other ad-hoc financial support and analysis as required
  • Reconcile Financial Data from Grant Management software to ensure accuracy with accounting and provide analysis of financial data as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all internal control processes in areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of the workflow and procedures for the Financial Analyst role and maintain updates as needed
