JOB DESCRIPTION

The Financial Analyst (FA), Financial Reporting will play an important role in CanCap’s accounting and finance team. The candidate will be providing support to financial reporting manager(s), working closely with several other skilled financial analysts, and directly interacting with senior leadership in and outside the finance department, leveraging their talents to drive exceptional results and actively contribute to the growth and success of the organization. The candidate will be actively participating in financial reporting and analysis, reconciliations, compilation of financial data, including preparation of basic financial statements and KPI dashboards and sharing the results of their work with the finance and other teams on a regular basis.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in the financial services or similar industries with exposure to financial products (consumer loans, leases, mortgages, etc.)
  • Post-secondary education with a specialization in Finance or Accounting
  • Full cycle accounting experience and working knowledge of ASPE and IFRS
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, lending metrics, and financial risk principles
  • Experience in being a part of dynamic, deadline-driven and high-performing teams
  • Upbeat, outgoing, open to receive and able to provide honest feedback
  • Great verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to subordinates, peers and senior leadership on a regular basis
  • Results oriented “go-getter”, committed to achieving high degree of accuracy within a fast-paced environment,
  • Meticulous attention to detail, while effectively managing complex priorities
  • High general IT aptitude
  • Inquisitive state of mind and natural curiosity, with a drive for constant innovation and improvement in efficiency.
  • Solid analytical, data mining and problem-solving skills
  • Self-learner, able to function with minimal supervision past initial orientation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including common best practices, latest product enhancements, complex formulas, data analysis tools, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Experience working with various accounting and reporting software packages (Sage 300 ERP, Caseware is a plus)

Responsibilities
  • Monthly/quarterly full cycle accounting activities such as:
  • Prepare journal entries and associated documentation including consolidation, where necessary
  • Complete reconciliation of key balance sheet and income statement accounts (including clearing accounts)
  • Prepare basic financial statements, support for note disclosures and variance analysis
  • Develop and apply data-driven insights to analyze, summarize and report on complex financial information
  • Perform assessment of critical financial records in collaboration with stakeholders to identify root causes of any discrepancies and/or communicate results to executives
  • Maintain supporting schedules and work with external auditors to support annual audits and quarterly reviews, as necessary.
  • Assist in finance transformation and automation initiatives, serving as a contact for external consultants, where necessary, and working closely with them to drive improvements, streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
