The financial analyst will provide support to a portfolio of programs/departments within the hospital as their financial liaison. They are responsible for the preparation and analysis of internal financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, required government financial reporting, audit working papers, and assistance with the annual budgeting process.

EDUCATION

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices and information system operation as required through a University graduation in Business Administration or Commerce
  • CPA or working towards CPA designation

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years financial experience including accounting, budgeting and financial analysis in a computerized environment.
  • Preparation of complex financial statements
  • Knowledge of Hospital financial accounting requirements and reporting structure would be an asset
  • Experience planning and developing reporting relying on large data set or data repositories

SKILLS

  • Ability to work independently on complex and diversified projects with general guidance
  • Analytical, planning and organizational skills and the ability to identify problems and exercise sound judgement in recommending solutions
  • Excellent communications, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:

  • Review and maintain financial information for assigned programs by analyzing financial statements, identifying any significant variances, researching all source documents, communicating with other finance staff or program directors to determine an explanation, making any correcting journal entries and communicating to staff if required to keep the problem from recurring.
  • Assist program directors/managers in budget preparation and maintenance by clarifying financial information for them, providing advice and guidance, and resolving any issues they may have regarding their financial reporting requirements.
  • Design, test and maintain management and user reports within the financial modules of Meditech and Cognos.
  • Support the year-end audit file by preparing working papers, answer any questions the auditors might have or directing them to the appropriate person to assist in the year-end audit runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Maintaining the lead sheets and financial statements on Meditech to support the working papers
  • Prepare government financial statements as required and answering any follow up questions from the particular government agency
  • Maintain assigned balance sheet accounts by reconciling accounts monthly, investigating any discrepancies and preparing any adjusting journal entries to ensure that balance sheet accounts are accurate
  • Reviewing and identifying issues with users and following up with MEDITECH about outstanding issues, processes/procedures and solutions to problems.
  • Support program managers via the preparation of detailed financial analyses and/or business analysis
  • Prepare and provides analysis of system generated information with respect to efficiency and effectiveness of Financial processes
  • Lead and/or participate in other Special Projects.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families.
  • Assist in the on-going maintenance of the Meditech system by providing input and participating as a team member as required
  • Assists in developing internal accounting controls and policy and procedure for accounting functions
  • Other duties as assigned
