ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Methanex is currently seeking a Financial Analyst to join the team in Medicine Hat, AB. This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of August 29, 2025.
The Financial Analyst provides analytical and financial expertise for the Methanex Medicine Hat site facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources. This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies and sound governance.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Ensure timely financial results and reporting that accurately reflect the current business position
- Work with department managers and stakeholders to build and maintain effective cost-management strategies and tools
- Ensure Methanex Corporation maintains accurate general ledger balances and financials by preparing and entering journal entries and accurate reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
- Maintain good knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and Accounting Standards through interaction with the Corporate Office, reading and attending appropriate external training seminars
- Responsible for the management of account reconciliations
- Review Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs) for completeness and reasonableness
- Provide timely and clear monthly reporting on the capital program, project status, and costs
- Prepare capital cash flow forecast updates
- Responsible for being a change agent for our Financial and Asset Management systems to achieve operational excellence by understanding business processes and requirements, identifying system and business process improvements within and across departments
- Maintain fixed assets register including major components, installed cost, in-service date, and useful life to accounting standards and property tax assessment guidelines
- Manage depreciation schedules and ensure depreciation is calculated accurately and entered general ledger
- Coordinate annual 3-year site capital plan, production, and opex budget and forecast submissions including management reviews
- Facilitate regular review discussions with department managers, project leads, and stakeholders on actual and forecast results
- Provide analysis of trends and comparisons
- Prepare accurate, relevant, reliable, and timely financial reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements) to corporate finance/treasury and senior management and Global Manufacturing Team
- Present monthly financial results to the site management team with analysis of significant items, trends, and comparisons to budgets
- Prepare economic evaluations supporting and optimizing operational strategies
- Understand provincial property and machinery & equipment assessment reporting requirements and submit reporting as per requirements
- Review and maintain relevant Sarbanes Oxley process narratives
- Provide input and assistance into the implementation of any new financial systems or modules ensuring that their capability and use are optimized and fit for purpose
