Description
Be the analyst who keeps the business profitable, accurate, and in control. We’re hiring a Financial Analyst to take full ownership of the financial performance of our mass-market natural gas portfolio. This role is built for someone who loves digging into numbers, understands what drives margin, and can turn complex billing and settlement data into clean financial truth You won’t just report on revenue — you’ll protect it. You’ll manage P&L drivers, ensure GL and AR accuracy in QuickBooks, validate high-volume billing in VertexOne, reconcile pipeline and LDC settlements, and deliver insights that directly impact cash flow and profitability. You’ll work closely with Finance, Supply, and Operations to make sure every number is right, every variance is explained, and every dollar is accounted for. What You’ll Do P&L & Monthly Close Own monthly P&L for gas portfolios, including revenue, pass-throughs, margin, and bad debt. Prepare accruals for unbilled revenue, storage, capacity, and imbalance charges. Run budget vs. actual and variance analysis (weather, usage, churn, promotions). General Ledger, AR & QuickBooks Maintain accurate GL and journal entries in QuickBooks. Oversee AR aging, write-offs, and cash application for POR and non-POR customers. Map billing data and tax codes from VertexOne into QuickBooks. Billing & Revenue Accuracy Validate billing data (EDI 810 / 867 / 814) and rate/tax setup in VertexOne. Reconcile enrollments, drops, and rate plans to prevent revenue leakage. Run billing accuracy checks and resolve data discrepancies. Settlements & Reconciliations Reconcile monthly LDC and pipeline settlements. Review and validate storage, transport, and balancing invoices. Resolve billing and settlement disputes when needed. Reporting, Forecasting & Insights Maintain revenue and margin models by utility market. Publish weekly dashboards: margin, billing accuracy, unbilled position, AR exposure. Partner with Pricing & Supply on profitability and forecasting scenarios. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field. 3+ years of financial analysis experience, ideally in energy, utilities, or billing-heavy industries. Strong QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills; SQL experience preferred. Experience with VertexOne or another EDI-based billing system strongly preferred. Sharp analytical and reconciliation skills with a habit of finding the “why” behind the numbers. Clear communication, strong documentation, reliable follow-through. Why This Role Matters In a high-volume billing environment, small errors become big losses. Your ability to reconcile, validate, and forecast keeps the business profitable and predictable — and gives leadership the confidence to grow faster with data they can trust. If you think in numbers, see patterns before others do, and want a role where your work directly impacts margin and cash flow, we’d like to talk.
