POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Financial and Data Analyst is a quantitative position for a developing financial analyst. The Analyst will assist in the execution of appraisal and financial analyses. As they gain competency in financial analyses, they will build programmatic financial and econometric models to solve key questions within broadband economics. These analyses will have a significant impact on broadband stakeholders, influencing governments’ investment and policies in broadband technologies, corporate planning in broadband, and groups within CQA.
They will lead the standardization and collection of certain financial data that are currently collected and analyzed in an ad hoc manner. They will assist and progressively take responsibility for data gathering, data cleaning, analysis, and presentation of key financial/economic data.
They are expected to have demonstrated statistical, database, and programming capabilities. They are expected to learn accounting, finance, and the telecom industry with significant mentoring.

EDUCATION:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Financial or Data Science related field.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Basic understanding of data engineering concepts, including data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration.
  • Excellent Excel Experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues, particularly related to financial and data analystics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial topics.
  • Experience with programming languages such as SQL, [R], Python.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects, and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with Knime, Capital IQ or similar software platforms.
  • Knowledge of geospatial and/or computer vision

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional travel to Cincinnati or client locations
  • To meet the U.S. Government clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to pass a U.S. Public Trust background investigation for access to the client site and computing systems. You must have lived in the U.S. for the past three (3) years.

WHAT WE DO

CostQuest Associates services government clients and the broadband industry with services related to valuation, appraisal, public policy, engineering cost, and business planning. We excel in custom broadband telecommunication economics work and the creation of niche datasets and applications that enable companies and regulators to make effective, informed decisions, and allocate their capital more efficiently.
Clients such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the US Department of Commerce have relied on our expertise to inform policy and regulatory decisions. In addition, our valuation and appraisal services support the tax and merger and acquisition initiatives for large services providers and other providers of broadband services.

Responsibilities
  • Accounting and Financial Analysis (60%)
  • Learn and apply the fundamentals of accounting to analyze the data of public companies and private client financial data.
  • Build econometric and financial models.
  • Update recurring financial analysis relating to depreciation and obsolescence.
  • Formalize a database of financial metrics based on public and private data.
  • Review and analyze major telecom public company transcripts.
  • Quantitative and Data Projects (30%)
  • Establish quantitative relationships and assist or lead statistical analysis across CostQuest’s telecom and geospatial data.
  • Assist the AI team in developing object detection and other tools by conducting statistical analyses on a recurring basis.
  • Lead data collection and data cleaning for government and other data sets that are not currently captured such as Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
  • Establish a detailed understanding of certain government data sets and sources such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Federal Reserve of Economic Data. Manage these data sets and APIs for access across the firm.
  • Perform econometric analysis on financial data and telecom data.
  • Broadband Pricing (10%)
  • Formalize and standardize broadband pricing data collection and analysis from the ~3000 broadband providers in the United State database.
  • Work with management to establish a publication and recurring content schedule (“Annual Broadband Pricing Report”) to include quantitative analyses.
  • Incorporate pricing data into financial and economic analyses, as well as CQA products.
