Reporting to the Manager of Financial Assistance, the Financial Assistance Support Officer provides essential technical, business, and operational support. This role focuses on planning, evaluating, and enhancing Financial Assistance services and systems, including the Banner Student Aid system and other College initiatives.
The Financial Assistance Support Officer is responsible for managing and supporting various financial assistance programs, with an emphasis on delivering high-quality service across several Financial Assistance areas. This role involves overseeing all Financial Assistance bursary programs and applications, ensuring compliance with Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) regulations and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Key responsibilities include reviewing award applications, letters, and reports, maintaining detailed records, supporting OSAP processing (especially for part-time and micro-credential applications), and managing financial aid records.
The position also involves administering Scholarship and Bursary funding, and collaborating with the Mohawk College Foundation, College departments, and external donors. The incumbent ensures timely fund distribution, assists students with funding processes, and promotes the College to prospective students and donors. Familiarity with Ministry OSAP, internal College systems (Banner, Millennium, Cognos), and other financial assistance supports is essential.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • A minimum of three-year post-secondary education in General Business, Business Accounting, Office Administration or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business or office management, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Experience with scholarships and financial assistance is an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Strong accounting skills and proficiency with Excel and computer technology.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with software applications, databases, and integrated information systems like Banner, Microsoft Office, and Access.
  • Experience with project management and Ministry systems (Students with Disabilities Database, Bursary Reporting System, OSAP System) is required at the point of hire.
  • The incumbent must have proven technical skills with computer applications and high proficiency in MS Access and MS Excel computer software programs. Experience with interrogating databases is key.
  • In-depth knowledge of post-secondary systems is necessary. Knowledge of Banner forms and tables is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
