SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • CA/CPA qualification with 5+ years of financial controller or senior finance experience
  • Advanced proficiency in financial systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems)
  • Expert-level Excel skills and experience with financial modeling and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards (AASB) and taxation requirements
  • Proven experience in budget preparation, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Previous experience in media, publishing, or similar fast-paced industries preferred

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join Are Media’s dynamic Finance team as a Financial Controller in this exciting maximum term full-time position based in Sydney. This role serves as a strategic financial partner to senior management, overseeing critical financial operations across Are Media’s diverse portfolio of leading Australian brands. You’ll play a pivotal role in driving financial excellence while supporting the company’s continued growth in the rapidly evolving media landscape. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly forecasting cycles, working closely with department heads to ensure accurate financial planning
  • Monitor and manage daily cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital optimisation across all business units
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (AASB), tax obligations, and coordinate external audit processes while maintaining internal controls
  • Supervise and mentor junior finance staff, fostering professional development and maintaining high-performance standards
  • Collaborate with operational teams to provide financial insights, cost analysis, and support for business development initiatives
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency and accuracy
