About Access Financial Services
Access Financial Services (Access FS), founded in 2017 by visionary CEO Karl Wilkinson, is a dynamic and rapidly expanding independent mortgage and protection brokerage that’s revolutionising the industry. With impressive 46% revenue growth in 2024 and 43% in Q1 2025, we’ve grown to over 240 advisers, delivering innovative, tailored solutions like Sharia-compliant finance, 0% deposit mortgages, and our new general insurance proposition. Featured in leading publications such as Mortgage Solutions and Financial Reporter, we prioritise client-first service, compliance, and cutting-edge partnerships—empowering underserved communities and helping clients achieve their dreams in a supportive, forward-thinking environment where your contributions truly matter.
Role Overview
Step into a pivotal role as Financial Controller, where you’ll drive the financial success of Access FS and its subsidiaries, reporting directly to the Finance Director with a dotted line to the CEO. In this exciting position, you’ll ensure precision in our operations while supporting our ambitious growth trajectory in a client-focused brokerage that’s making waves in the market. Enjoy the freedom of fully remote working, collaborate with passionate industry experts, and contribute to strategic initiatives that shape the future of financial services—all while benefiting from a culture that values work-life balance, professional development, and rewarding performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead bookkeeping and accounting on Xero for the company and subsidiaries, delivering accurate and timely reconciliations of balance sheets, bank accounts, and other key accounts to support informed decision-making.
  • Craft trial balances, draft management accounts, and deliver insightful performance reports and ad-hoc analyses to empower directors with data-driven strategies.
  • Safeguard financial data integrity across our CRM system, while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and seamless FCA regulatory returns.
  • Manage payroll with precision, ensuring unwavering compliance with HMRC regulations and guidance in a fast-evolving regulatory landscape.
  • Generate compelling management information (MI) on protection clawbacks, adviser performance, and business distribution across lenders and providers to optimise operations.
  • Efficiently process commissions to uphold a consistent Gross Profit Percentage, spotting and seizing opportunities for enhancement.
  • Fuel our growth with astute financial modelling for innovative projects, such as new general insurance propositions and digital expansions.
  • Partner with senior management to introduce efficient financial procedures and play a key role in shaping our business strategy.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ accounting experience, ideally in the vibrant financial services sector or a regulated environment like mortgages and protection.
  • Fully or part-qualified accountant (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) or Qualified by Experience (QBE), ready to bring your expertise to a high-growth team.
  • Advanced Excel skills for sophisticated analysis and reporting, coupled with proficiency in Xero or similar accounting software.
  • Solid grasp of FCA regulations, HMRC compliance, and payroll management to thrive in our compliant-first culture.
  • Demonstrated success in producing precise management accounts, MI, and budgets within a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive mindset for driving process improvements and team success.
  • Self-motivated and organised, excelling in a remote role with occasional travel to our Milton Keynes head office.
  • Advantageous: Experience with CRM systems and commissions processing in financial services.
