Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Financial Controller to join a growing law firm in Manchester. We are looking for a dynamic Financial Controller to drive financial performance, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting the firm’s continued growth and success. This role would suit a Senior Finance Manager or Financial Controller with industry experience keen to work both operationally and strategically. The Financial Controller will oversee a small team of 3 junior team members, this is a hands-on role requiring strong technical skills and comfort working in the detail.

The Financial Controller will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the firm’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and growth targets.
  • Oversee all day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports and analysis, providing strategic insights to the Managing Partner and Board to support informed decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Ensure the firm’s full compliance with regulatory requirements, specifically the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules, and oversee audit processes.
  • Develop and maintain robust cash flow models, conduct scenario planning for individual legal projects, and provide detailed financial insights to the COO and Managing Partner to assess project viability and profitability.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, driving a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement in financial operations.
  • Actively manage and optimize working capital, overseeing billing, credit control, and debt recovery processes to ensure healthy cash flow and minimize outstanding receivables.
  • Implement and refine financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the firm’s assets and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Support the COO with in-depth financial analysis on performance metrics, costs, and operational performance, offering actionable recommendations for improvements.
  • Foster and manage relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Conduct regular financial risk assessments, recommending and implementing strategies to mitigate identified risks and protect the firm’s financial health.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for cost savings, financial efficiencies, and enhanced financial performance across the firm.

Qualifications:

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive experience in a senior financial management role, ideally within the legal or professional services sector.
  • Deep understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules and regulatory compliance specific to the legal industry.
  • Proven track record in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.

The salary advertised for this role is a guideline and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
