JOB OVERVIEW

Sky Contracting Inc. is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant / Director of Finance to lead and manage the company’s financial operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction or real estate finance, along with proven leadership abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • CPA designation or in progress is required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience (ideally within construction or real estate industries).
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and ASPE (considered an asset).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of corporate taxes, HST ITCs on commercial and non-commercial activities.
  • Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and managing accounting teams.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee full-cycle accounting, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, general ledger, billings, and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage day-to-day cash flow for the group of companies, including forecasting, cash flow analysis, collections, accounts payable processing, and payroll management.
  • Design, implement, and oversee month-end accounting processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation of accounts receivable progress billings, review work-in-progress (WIP) construction activity, and ensure accurate revenue recognition and cost allocation.
  • Develop and analyze monthly financial reports for company leadership and bank compliance.
  • Supervise bookkeeper(s) and play an active role in the hiring and training of additional accounting staff.
  • Prepare year-end tax schedules and coordinate with external accountants for financial statement preparation and tax filings.
  • Prepare and file monthly HST returns and ITC applications.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure financial reporting requirements are met, including cash flow projections, issue resolution, analysis, and WIP reconciliation.
  • Conduct general and administrative expense (G&A) analysis and provide strategic recommendations for financial efficiency.
  • Assist in the evaluation and financial projection of capital expenditures, equipment purchases, and potential acquisitions to ensure proper financing and budgeting.
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll processing and subcontractor payments, ensuring compliance with regulations and contractual agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, ASPE), tax regulations, and corporate policies.
  • Monitor and improve internal financial controls, risk management, and operational efficiencies within the finance department.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, financial institutions, and key stakeholders.
