Full time, continuing opportunity Provide leadership and act as the primary custodian of financial integrity across the University Offering a competitive remuneration package including 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Financial Controller is a pivotal leadership role, serving as the University’s trusted accounting advisor across its Australian and international entities. Reporting to the Director, Financial Control and Treasury, this position oversees key financial functions including external reporting and compliance, group financial control, grants and program acquittals, revenue accounting, and taxation. As the University’s primary custodian of financial integrity, the Financial Controller ensures robust operational control of the institution’s financial position, manages critical audit and taxation obligations, and contributes to the development of financial policy while supporting the CFO and Senate Finance Committee. Your key responsibilities will be to: deliver financial reports in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with the accounting and reporting standards ensure the integrity of the University’s system of internal controls for financial accounting and the integrity of the general ledger, and oversee the control and functional operation of the University’s ERP and related finance systems meet all University reporting obligations to the Department of Education and Australian Bureau of Statistics through timely and accurate lodgement of annual Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) and Higher Education Research and Development (HERD) returns manage the audit process across all external reporting ensure accuracy in calculation and reporting of the University’s grant acquittals and reporting and contract revenue recognition processes provide group accounting services including financial oversight, Board reporting and advisory services to the University’s subsidiaries support the CFO and Director, Financial Control and Treasury in developing agendas, papers and facilitating the completion of actions arising from the Senate Finance Committee proceedings provide input into the annual budget and quarterly forecast process; ensure timely and accurate forecasting of expenditure within the ambit of Financial Control and Treasury (financing costs, provisions, depreciation, leases etc). undertake financial analysis to support business cases and manage the financial due diligence process for suppliers About you tertiary qualifications in accounting and membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia or equivalent significant experience working at a senior leadership level in financial accounting in a large, complex, and diverse organisation within the public, private, or professional accounting sectors highly developed accounting and financial management skills, including extensive knowledge of the Australian tax environment, statutory reporting requirements and accounting standards. ability to interpret and provide expert advice on University financial policies and procedures and external compliance requirements and apply them to a complex operating environment extensive project management experience gained within the Finance/IT environment including project scoping and delivery, change management, management of external suppliers, process improvement and stakeholder management sophisticated stakeholder management and people skills including demonstrated capability as a trusted advisor to senior management and boards outstanding leadership skills including the ability to lead a team of subject matter specialists across a variety of functions Sponsorship / work rights for Australia Please note: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply.
