JOB OVERVIEW
My Friend’s House, Collingwood Crisis Centre is a non-profit agency offering support for abused women and children living in the Georgian Triangle. Since opening in 1991, My Friend’s House has helped thousands of women get the safety and support they need to rebuild their lives.
We serve over 600 women and their children each year – 250 through our Shelter Program and the balance through our Outreach, Transition and Children’s Programs.
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our team. Working in conjunction with the Executive Director and other leaders, the ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing strategic financial guidance. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as experience in managing financial reporting and analysis within a non-profit or governmental context.
EXPERIENCE
· Proven experience in financial management, preferably within non-profit or governmental accounting sectors.
· CPA Designation
· Business Degree including Finance and Account Management
· 5+ years experience with a concentration on the non for profit sector
· Familiarity with technical accounting concepts including double entry bookkeeping, payroll processing, and account analysis.
· Demonstrated ability in cash management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial report writing.
· Proficiency in using various financial software tools to enhance operational efficiency.
· Excellent analytical skills with a strong understanding of financial concepts and regulations. · Advanced working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Payworks, Teams, Sharepoint, and DropBox.

· Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
· Flexibility to work overtime during peak business periods – any overtime worked will be paid or recorded as in-lieu time to be taken later.
· Oversee $1.8 million annual budget
· Monthly financial reporting to the Board of Directors
· Annual and interim audit preparation and liaison with auditors
· Program reporting to the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
· Liaison with external Information Technology provider
· Liaison with external Investment Advisor
· Annual budgeting
· Banking relations
· Union negotiations and financial HR related matters in conjunction with the Executive Director and Program Manager
· Overseeing bookkeeping and office administration functions
· Managing and developing the finance team, providing guidance and fostering a collaborative work environment
· Data analysis – analyzing financial data to identify trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvement
· Internal controls – establishing and maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure data integrity
· Overseeing payroll functions
· Compliance – ensuring the organization adheres to relevant financial regulations and accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNFP0).
