POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Pelee Island Winery, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, controls and accounting processes. This role involves managing a team, optimizing workflow, and supporting strategic financial planning and optimizing financial resources.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Masters preferred), Finance, or a closely related field (CPA designation mandatory).
  • Direct audit field experience (preferably with one on the “Big 4” firms)
  • 5+ years of experience in progressive accounting roles, preferably in financial management, couple with 2 years of people management experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, ERP systems).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, ASPE, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Office setting with standard work hours. Expectation of some additional seasonality time commitments (budgets season, year end, audit review).
  • Must be able to work within core business hours.
  • May require occasional overtime during peak financial periods.
