Company Description Our client is a Marine security vessel and Logistics Company executing projects for major IOC’s in Nigeria with strong presence in Lagos and Port Harcourt. With over two decade of global experience, our Client has its HQ in Lagos. The role is based in Lagos, Nigeria. Job Description We are looking for a Financial Controller to oversee all financial, accounting, and reporting functions of the company. The ideal candidate will ensure strong financial governance, cost control, and compliance with Nigerian tax and regulatory requirements. This role requires a strong financial leader who can partner with executive management to drive business performance while maintaining robust financial controls and compliance. The Financial Controller will report directly to the Managing Director and play a key role in supporting business growth and operational efficiency. Financial Operations & Treasury Management Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Manage cash flow planning, treasury operations, and working capital to ensure financial stability. Ensure effective financial systems, processes, and controls are in place to support operational efficiency. Assist in determining the company's proper capital structure Arrange for equity financing and debt financing and invest funds. Recommend appropriate dividend issuances, based on historical dividend patterns and expected cash flows Financial Reporting & Budgeting Manage the preparation of the company's budget. Oversee the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Provide detailed financial analysis to support business planning and operational decisions. Provide strategic financial insights to the Managing Director. Report to management on variances from the established budget, and the reasons for those variances Manage budgeting and forecasting, particularly for vessel operations and crew logistics Assist management in the formulation of its overall strategic direction Risk Management & Internal Controls Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial governance frameworks. Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws (FIRS, PAYE, VAT, WHT) and regulatory bodies. Coordinate internal and external audits and manage relationships with auditors, regulators, and financial institutions. Leadership & Team Management Provide strategic leadership to the finance and accounting team. Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing finance department. Establish clear performance goals and development plans for finance staff. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and financial discipline across the organization. Collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to support overall business strategy. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs) Financial Reporting Accuracy: Timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Budget Performance: Maintain variance between budget and actual results within agreed thresholds. Cash Flow Management: Ensure healthy cash flow and optimal working capital management. Cost Optimization: Identify and implement initiatives that reduce operational costs while maintaining efficiency. Compliance & Audit Outcomes: Successful completion of internal and external audits with minimal findings. Financial Controls: Implementation and maintenance of strong internal control systems. Strategic Financial Contribution: Provide financial insights that support revenue growth and profitability. Team Performance & Development: Development of a high-performing finance team with clear accountability and performance outcomes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage). Professional certification such as ICAN/ACA, ACCA, CPA, or CFA is required. Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Additional Information Competitive remuneration.
