ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, finance admin, or accounting support
  • Proficient with Netsuite (or similar accounting tools) and Microsoft
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Clear communication and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Understanding of UK finance and tax regulations

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a startup or scale-up environment
  • Experience with funding preparation / financial modelling
  • Experience with taxes (e.g. R&D Tax Returns)
  • Experience with grant applications
  • Understanding of international tax regulations (USA)
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We’re looking for a detail-oriented Financial Controller to join our growing team and take ownership of our daily financial operations. Working closely with our external finance partners, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring our financial processes run smoothly and accurately.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Core Finance Ops

  • Own all aspects of financial reporting, forecasting, and compliance
  • Manage month-end close, cash flow forecasting, and financial modelling
  • Lead VAT, tax, and HMRC submissions (with external accountants)
  • Oversee payroll, accounts receivable/payable, and departmental budgets
  • Maintain and optimise Netsuite
  • Prepare investor-ready reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash runway, burn)

Strategic Finance

  • Partner with leadership on financial planning, scenario analysis, and fundraising readiness
  • Model business cases for new hires, product development, and market expansion
  • Help guide capital allocation decisions that align with company growth and margin goals
  • Support grant funding applications and R&D claims
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvements, and cost efficiencies

Leadership & Governance

  • Establish internal controls and ensure financial policy compliance
  • Liaise with external finance, audit, and legal providers
  • Present financial insights to investors and leadership
