Financial Counsellor (Gambling) -
Why This Role Matters
Financial Counsellor Position Purpose:
- Provide information, options, and advocacy for individuals and groups facing financial difficulties due to problem gambling.
- Assess and develop strategies to address financial and credit concerns.
- Contribute to integrated Service Activities (ISA) through presentations and community education.
About the Program:
- The Salvation Army Gambling Support Service, funded by the Department of Health, operates within the Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) and Doorways community engagement streams.
- Programs include:
- Gambler’s Help City & Inner North (GHCIN): Part of the Victorian State Government’s Integrated Problem Gambling Strategy, offering therapeutic and financial counselling, community education, and venue support.
- Generalist Financial Counselling Program: A national service providing free financial counselling for individuals facing financial difficulties.
About The Role
We are seeking a dedicated Financial Counsellor (Gambling) for our Alcohol and other drugs in a Part-time capacity for 30.4 hours a week. This position is based out of Kensington
Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Grade profile SCHADS Award level 5.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess clients, determine eligibility, and create intervention plans considering intersectional factors (e.g., cultural needs, family violence, LGBTIQA+, ATSI).
- Provide financial counselling using tailored methods responsive to client needs.
- Manage and monitor caseloads and targets as set by GHCIN and program requirements.
- Maintain accurate participant records in accordance with TSA standards and funding body systems (e.g., GH Connect).
- Provide reports to the Gambling Support Service Program Manager or Senior Therapeutic Counsellor.
- Facilitate referrals and ensure clients access appropriate services.
- Build and maintain relationships with key service providers and community groups..
- Liaise with other service providers and participate in relevant case and service planning meetings.
- Successfully complete individual service target components
- Effectively deliver the financial counselling
- Constructively participate in the line management and supervision meetings
- Identify service gaps and provide recommendations for service delivery improvements.
- Participate in planning, reporting, reviews, and quality improvement activities.
- Assist in policy and procedure development.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation to ensure service effectiveness and efficiency.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships to support organizational and program goals.
- Actively participate in team and program meetings.
- Develop innovative strategies and relationships with relevant services in the inner North catchment area as directed by VRGF.
- Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Specialist Financial Assistance and Gambling Support Coordinator and Program Manager as appropriate
About You:
- Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling) is mandatory
- Relevant experience in financial counselling service delivery environment
- A Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
- A current and valid Working with Children’s Check
- A valid Victorian Driver’s license.
