Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Financial Counselor to deliver excellent patient-centered service by supporting and facilitating financial processes related to professional healthcare services. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate billing, maximizing collections, and guiding patients through their financial responsibilities with clarity and professionalism. The Financial Counselor will work closely with both internal teams and external customers to ensure timely resolution of billing issues and a seamless financial experience for patients. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Enter and review charges in accordance with coding and billing guidelines Apply CPT and diagnosis coding rules to ensure accurate billing Verify insurance coverage and eligibility Obtain prior authorizations for services as required Review and manage patient account details, ensuring accuracy and completeness Identify and resolve front-end edits, claim rejections, and information requests Maximize collections through proactive account management Provide financial counseling to patients, including explaining charges and payment options Collect payments and assist patients in establishing payment plans when necessary Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance companies Support practice goals through efficient and accurate financial operations Float to other practices or adjust work schedule as needed to support staffing needs Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Minimum of two (2) years of experience in business, financial services, or a physician practice setting (preferably in patient accounts or collections) Substitutions: Bachelor’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of required experience Associate degree or equivalent coursework may substitute for one (1) year of experience Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of CPT and diagnosis coding Experience with EPIC or similar electronic health record (EHR) systems Prior experience in healthcare billing, collections, or financial counseling Required Skills & Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively Comfortable discussing financial matters and collecting payments in a professional manner Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
