QUALIFICATIONS:

5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) or equivalent

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Experience in a front-line housing or customer service environment
  • Proven ability to negotiate payment arrangements and reduce rent arrears
  • In-depth knowledge of Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, and DWP processes
  • Proficient in using IT systems including MS Office and housing management platforms (e.g. Northgate)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities

WHAT’S INVOLVED WITH THIS ROLE:

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Financial Inclusion and Support Officer to join our team and provide vital welfare benefits and tenancy sustainment support to residents. This is a key role in helping tenants manage the impact of welfare reform and sustain their tenancies through tailored financial advice, income maximisation strategies, and access to specialist services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide effective advice on welfare benefits, debt, and budgeting to help residents gain better control over their finances.
  • Identify tenants in financial difficulty and offer tailored support to help them reduce arrears and sustain their tenancy.
  • Accurately complete Universal Credit verifications using the Landlord Portal and UC inbox.
  • Work closely with partner agencies, including DWP, Housing Benefit teams, and voluntary organisations, to coordinate holistic support.
  • Conduct interviews, home visits, and surgeries to assess residents’ needs and deliver support plans.
  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare reports for management as required.
  • Liaise with Social Services, neighbourhood teams, and legal/advocacy representatives on complex cases.
