The Financial Operations Senior, who will join us at the beginning of a major modernization of our technical systems and process capabilities, will play a critical role in implementing financial operations automation, analyzing financial performance, supporting budgeting and forecasting, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and partnering with leadership to improve efficiency and profitability. As a smaller but nimble department, we value team members who are hands-on, detail-oriented, and eager to make a measurable impact on the business. The ideal candidate will be interested in not only what but also why and how improvements can be made. This is a highly visible role where your insights will help shape the company’s financial strategy and ensure long-term growth. This position reports to the Assistant Controller.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of core financial operations processes including payables, receivables, and payroll and work with stakeholders to ensure scalability as Afton grows.
  • Assist in enhancing financial systems, reporting processes, and internal controls for a growing organization.
  • Take a lead role in the period close process and financial reporting
  • Support the business in preparing presentations and reports for lenders, investors, auditors, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret monthly financial results, variance analyses, and profitability reports.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and manage rolling forecasts.
  • Partner with operations and leadership teams to identify cost drivers, efficiency opportunities, and margin improvement strategies.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support manufacturing operations, inventory management, and capital investment decisions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and recommend process improvements.
  • Provide financial insight into pricing, product profitability, and customer trends.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field required; MBA or CPA/CFA a plus.
  • 3-5 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably with exposure to manufacturing or product-based businesses.
  • Strong systems, financial modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel; ERP/manufacturing cost accounting systems experience preferred. (experience in SAP B1 is a plus)
  • Experience implementing and automating business processes.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand operations and connect financial results to business drivers.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present findings to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Comfortable working in a smaller company environment—hands-on, adaptable, and proactive.
