Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To research, analyze, and maintain financial records and processes for the Department of Information Technology for both internal and external customers.

DUTIES:

Each member of the Business Center acts as a department-wide resource for a variety of responsibilities, providing continuous opportunities for direct contact with City members which requires advanced written, oral, and interpersonal skills. The position requires the ability to understand and complete departmental purchasing, payroll, human resources, accounts payable/receivable, and billing functions in order to resolve financial issues.

The Financial Specialist will be responsible for the following:

  • Assist in the development of Departmental budgets and capital improvement financial plans, including tracking, researching, recording, and verifying information.
  • Assist in annual development of the department’s operating budget.
  • Apply research and statistical techniques for strategic planning, forecasting, cost modeling, and program evaluation.
  • Create and maintain complex spreadsheets requiring attention to detail, analyzing multiple sources of financial data to develop and prepare responses to inquiries as well as internal and external audits, preparing related work, and the use of proper e-mail etiquette.
  • Assist with booking travel arrangements for departmental staff and utilizing City procurement card.
  • Monitor and track departmental Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) funding allocation and mid-year adjustments.
  • Research and provide analysis of accounting/financial issues and processes and providing recommendations to remedy the situation(s).
  • Work in conjunction with IT staff to develop and maintain customer financial agreements.
  • Model leadership behavior by enabling others to work more efficiently; motivating peers.
  • Create processes and process improvements related to the use of technology metrics for financials.
