The Office of the Controller is responsible for government accounting policies and financial reporting, financial management and control policies, risk management (financial and audit risk) and financial business process management. The division is a leader in sponsoring, supporting, and facilitating initiatives with outcomes focused on effectiveness, efficiency, best practice, and continual improvement by the government financial community.

QUALIFICATIONS

A related University degree/diploma in business, accounting, finance or related discipline, plus minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in financial reporting, policy development, or systems management; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

The following are considered assets.

  • Demonstrated expertise in SAP S/4HANA financial modules (1GX) and SAP BPC or equivalent ERP reporting systems.
  • Track record of preparing legislatively mandated reports or disclosures for senior leadership or external stakeholders.
  • Experience conducting financial analyses and developing process documentation;
  • Proficiency in advanced spreadsheet modeling and data extraction techniques

Responsibilities

As a Financial System Compliance and Reporting Analyst, you will play a key role in promoting government accountability and transparency through the preparation of high-profile disclosure reports and improvement of financial systems. Reporting to the Manager, System Compliance & Reporting (SCR), this position is vital to the development, maintenance, and innovation of the Government of Alberta’s enterprise financial system (1GX S4) and disclosure processes.

You will work closely with ministry partners, senior leadership, and system stakeholders to resolve financial reporting issues, improve data accuracy, and contribute to corporate-level projects that streamline operations and enhance system efficiency across the GoA.

  • Provides a diverse range of financial management and reportingincluding quarterly Grant Disclosure, Blue Book, MLA Expense Reports.
  • Provide financial and system support to ministry partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with GoA financial legislation and policies.
  • Administer and manage 1GX master data elements (e.g., cost centers, chart of accounts, internal orders).
  • Conduct analysis and user acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure system accuracy and business process alignment.
  • Contribute to the development of guidelines, manuals, templates, and training materials related to financial disclosure and reporting.
  • Support business improvement projects aimed at increasing efficiency and accuracy in GoA reporting.
  • Prepare briefing materials, memos, and presentations for senior management and support cross-ministry training sessions

The ideal candidate combines technical mastery of financial systems with strong stakeholder management. You’ll provide technical support and administration of the government’s financial system (1GX) including the application of corporate processes and of the master data across the government.
