Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience assessing and verifying information to determine eligibility to a program or for services
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds (persons with disabilities, persons who are financially and/or socially disadvantaged, newcomers, different cultures etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure with accuracy in an environment with competing demands
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with the public, program participants, staff and or agencies
  • Effective problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Ability to make sound judgment in disbursing public funds
  • Experience interpreting, applying or explaining legislation, regulations or policies to others
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications particularly Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook

Desired:

  • Knowledge of different community programs or services

Duties:
The Financial Worker functions as a member of a case management team responsible for providing Employment and Income Assistance program services. The incumbent communicates regularly with clients, agencies and other stakeholders by telephone, in writing or in-person, processes and issues benefits in accordance with the Employment and Income Assistance Act, Regulations and policies. This position reviews, recommends, orders and/or authorizes expenditures for emergency, health and/or special needs and home and minor repairs submitted by clients. The incumbent enters electronic data for client budgets, pays bills, maintains client confidentiality and performs other clerical duties as assigned.
