JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for operating assigned fire apparatus and for performing firefighting, rescue, and
emergency medical duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  1. Knowledge of the current principles, practices, and techniques of fire and emergency medical operations.
  2. Knowledge of county geography, streets, roads, and buildings.
  3. Knowledge of emergency medical protocols, procedures, tools, and equipment.
  4. Skill in the provision of emergency medical care.
  5. Skill in the operation of specialized and job related vehicles, equipment, and tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field

of Fire and EMS, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education or GED

  • Possession of a valid driver’s licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment

operated.

  • Meets current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association as a Firefighter 1, 2, Pumper

and Aerial Operator, meet the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act, complete the NIMS 200 course

and other course requirements as per position promotional policy.

  • Current Licensure and functions as a State of Georgia and National Registry AEMT or Paramedic.

Responsibilities
  1. Responds to calls involving emergency medical and trauma, fire, and hazmat incidents; responds to non-
    emergency service calls to assist the public; takes appropriate actions to minimize the loss of life and
    property.
  2. Operates fire apparatus to transport personnel to and from calls in a safe manner.
  3. Operates apparatus at incident scenes according to procedures and practices.
  4. Operates pumps on fire apparatus and brush truck; operates hand tools, fans, extrication tools, and light sets.
  5. Secures roadway scenes for safety around apparatus and incident.
  6. Maintains current EMS and fire certifications through continuing education.
  7. Inspects, tests, and cleans assigned vehicles and equipment. Firefighter reports any hazards or maintenance
    issues to Station Officer.
  8. Inputs information in regard to incidents, patient care reports, apparatus reports, training hours.
  9. Participates in public Fire and EMS education programs; includes assisting with station tours, CPR training of
    the public, standing by at public relations events.
  10. Performs fire hydrant service by measuring water flow and pressures, cutting grass, cleaning, and painting.
  11. Conducts pre-planning surveys of businesses to identify physical layout, hazards, and contact information
    prior to a fire incident.
  12. Conducts annual hose and pump tests.
  13. Maintains station facilities and grounds by performing light and heavy general cleaning and maintenance;
    mows grass.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
