Description
The Division of the State Fire Marshal keeps Ohioans safe when they are at home, and out and about. This includes modernizing and enforcing the Ohio Fire Code; training and certifying firefighters; teaching fire prevention and safety education to businesses, industry, schools and the public; investigating the origin and cause of fires and explosions; and regulating and licensing fireworks companies, underground storage tanks and other fire-related industries. Conduct covert & overt investigations of suspicious fires, suspected arson & bombings. Photograph & sketch fire scenes. Determine origin of fires & cause. Obtain search warrants, conduct surveillance, interview witnesses. Prepare reports pertaining to arson investigation. Prepare & present classes in arson investigation. This position is based in Gallia, Meigs & Lawrence Counties. You must live in or in a county adjacent to the service counties to be considered. This investigator may be called on to assist in other counties not assigned to them. Current OPOTA Peace Officer Certification; 5 yrs. law enforcement experience which must include 2 yrs. experience in one or more of the following (fire origin & cause, arson investigation, explosion &/or bombing investigation). -Or current OPOTA Peace Officer Certification; current fire fighter certification; 5 yrs. experience in one or more of the following (fire origin & cause, arson investigation, explosion &/or bombing investigation). -Or current OPOTA Peace Officer Certification & associate core coursework in fire science, criminal justice or police science; 3 ½yrs. law enforcement experience which must include 1 year experience in one or more of the following (fire origin & cause, arson investigation, explosion &/or bombing investigation). -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
