Annual Salary: $58,305.00 - $64,155.00 Hourly: $29.90 - $32.90 Department: Fire, Public Safety Division: Fire Professional Services FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description: In this role, you will perform a variety of highly skilled duties to maintain and/or repair the property or equipment of the Fire Department using a variety of machines, tools and equipment. Examples of Duties: Maintains all Fire Department assets including heavy-duty apparatus, light & medium duty vehicles, marine vessels, trailers and various small engine equipment. Diagnose mechanical problems to determine required repair or replacement of parts and initiates repairs, adjustments, and services for a wide variety of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles & apparatus, aerial hydraulic systems, specialized fire department. apparatus & equipment, small engine equipment and marine firefighting vessels. Repairs, overhauls, and maintains a variety of components; cab interior & exterior, powertrain, gasoline & diesel engines, automatic transmissions, hydraulic systems, steering & suspension, air & hydraulic brakes systems, tires & wheels, advanced electrical/electronic control systems, cranking & charging systems, fuel systems, generators, fire pumps & related, aerial ladders/towers & related, rescue equipment, marine systems, communication equipment, etc. Repairs and provides routine maintenance on small tools, firefighting appliances, and lawn equipment, as needed Performs troubleshooting and diagnosing of complex vehicle electrical systems. Performs routine preventative maintenance as required. Performs vehicle upfitting and installation, as needed. Performs minor fabrication and welding as necessary. Performs body repair and painting when necessary. Completes related documentation to assist w/ record management systems for parts inventory, equipment repairs, compliance/testing regulations, and costs for parts and labor. Assists other mechanics when necessary. Delivery of vehicles and equipment when necessary. Pick up of parts as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Associate’s Degree (AA/AS) or Trade School Diploma/Certification and 4 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Driver's License. Ability to obtain Valid Commercial Driver’s Permit – Class A or B within 3 months of hire, and Valid Commercial Driver's License - Class A or B within 1 year of employment. Ability to pass and maintain at least 2 Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Tests (F1-F8) per year until recognized as an EVT Master Certified Fire Apparatus Technician in the fourth year of employment. Ability to pass and maintain at least 2 ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests (T2-T8) per year until recognized as an ASE Certified Master Medium-Heavy Truck Technician in the fourth year of employment. Full set of standard and specialty mechanic tools & storage, including a full set of standard and metric sockets, both hand and impact; 1/4 in, 3/8 in, and 1/2 in drives, torque wrenches, diagnostic volt/amp meter, metric & standard wrenches, hammers, diagnostic gauges, etc. Experience with diagnostic equipment, software scanners, digital volt ohm meter, and starting and charging system testers. Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office. Other Necessary Requirements: In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs. Requires after-hours on-call rotation, as needed. May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
