MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in fire science, environmental engineering, building construction, emergency management, fire prevention, fire inspection, hazardous materials, or fire protection.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certification in Firefighter I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Protection Specialist and/or equivalent preferred.
Conduct plan reviews and inspections of licensed healthcare facilities in accordance with RSA 151:6 II, RSA 153 and RSA 155-A. Coordinates with Department of Health & Human Services, design professionals, contractors, and facility staff to achieve compliance with state building and fire code.
Perform construction plan review to verify fire and building code compliance and issues approvals when directed by the Deputy Fire Marshal. Assists with inspections of construction projects in state buildings and others as required in RSA 155-A and Saf-C 8100.
Conduct inspections of all occupied public buildings and premises owned by the state in accordance with RSA 153:8-a (d) to detect fire hazards; enforces local ordinances and state statutes.
Promote effective application of State Fire Code by documenting code violations and writing detailed inspection reports, following up with re-inspections as needed. Works with building owners to achieve compliance with the minimum level of fire and life safety required by the code.
Conduct training programs for fire safety personnel related to fire protection, fire prevention, and fire inspection procedures.
Confers with city and town officials regarding fire protection and prevention laws, rules, and statutes.
Perform fire protection research and code analysis, makes recommendations, and attends meetings and administrative hearings as necessary.
Assist in the development of professional and technical fire safety standards under the direction of the deputy fire marshal and according to departmental guidelines.
