Description
The Division of the State Fire Marshal keeps Ohioans safe when they are at home, and out and about. This includes modernizing and enforcing the Ohio Fire Code; training and certifying firefighters; teaching fire prevention and safety education to businesses, industry, schools and the public; investigating the origin and cause of fires and explosions; and regulating and licensing fireworks companies, underground storage tanks and other fire-related industries. THIS POSITION WILL SERVICE PORTAGE & GEAUGA COUNTIES. What You'll Do: Within the State Fire Marshal, schedules and conducts fire safety inspections of buildings (e.g., schools, hospitals, group homes, day care centers, nursing homes, hotels, motels, bulk fuel oil plants, racetracks, & firework facilities) Assists local fire officials with inspections and enforcement when requested. issues notice of violations & citations for noted violations & conducts follow-up inspections to ensure corrections have been made in accordance with Sections 3737.41 & 3737.42 of ORC. Investigates complaints of fire safety violations. Trains new fire safety inspectors in bureau policies and procedures. Attends conferences, seminars, fire service meetings and other duties as assigned. This position requires travel. Hours are flexible and include occasional nights and weekends. May be required to walk on elevated, narrow walkways & inspect in confined quarters. Certificate evidencing satisfactory completion of fire safety inspector training program issued by state superintendent of public instruction, per Section 3303.07 of revised code of revised code; 12 mos. exp. in conducting fire safety inspections for compliance with ORC, OFC, OBBC, referenced standards & other state agency rules; valid driver’s license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
