Description
What You'll Do: Works under general supervision while providing work direction and training over assigned shift. Requires considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques, personnel management, emergency firefighting practices, and firefighting safety practices and procedures in order to supervise fire team. Coordinates assignment to insure efficient operations of equipment and fire station. Coordinates training plans and monitors training of fire fighters to ensure compliance with departmental operating instructions and the National Fire Protection Association standards. Maintains readiness to respond to emergency situations and performs functions of sector commander at scene of emergencies. Wears protective clothing and safety equipment in accordance with National Fire Protection Association 1500 Standards, when on duty or when participating in fire extinguishment and other hazardous situations. In the absence of the assistant fire chief directs fire teams in rescue and fire suppression operations. Drives or operates a variety of department equipment. Maintains files, records and reports; writes performance appraisals. Attend and participate in Department of Defense or agency sponsored and/or ongoing training courses. When required provides assistance and/or perform duties of the Assistant Fire Chief. Attends meetings and seminars Complete a standard work period of 24 hours followed by 48 hours off.
