Position: Fire Watch & Safety Inspection Patrol
Department: Patrol
Supervisor: Operations Manager
Position Overview: The Fire Watch Safety Inspection Patrol Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and fire prevention measures at the Sierra Forest Products facility in Terra Bella, CA. This role involves conducting safety inspections, monitoring fire hazards, ensuring compliance with company safety standards, and maintaining a safe working environment for all employees. The Fire Watch Officer will work closely with the Safety Manager to uphold the company’s safety protocols and provide immediate response in the event of a fire-related emergency.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid California Guard Card issued by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS). This certification is mandatory for individuals performing security duties in California.
  • A valid California Driver License is required to operate company vehicles and fulfill patrol duties effectively.
  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement or related fields is a plus.
  • Knowledge of fire safety regulations and safety practices.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Strong observation and reporting skills to identify and address potential security concerns, effectively identify hazards and take corrective action.
  • Previous experience in safety inspection or fire watch roles in an industrial or manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication skills to report hazards and safety violations effectively.
  • Successfully completion of the OSHA 10 safety course is required. This training ensures that you are knowledgeable about workplace safety protocols and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in real-time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, and noisy environments.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
  • Must be able to withstand potential exposure to hazardous conditions and chemicals.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and patrol the premises to ensure safety, fire watch and presence on site. Conduct regular fire watch duties to monitor for potential fire hazards and ensure compliance with fire safety protocols.
  • Perform routine safety inspections of equipment, machinery, and the facility to identify and address safety risks.
  • Identify and report any unsafe practices or conditions and take immediate action as required.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and incidents, providing necessary assistance or reporting to management as needed.
  • Maintain clear and proper documentation of inspections and incident reports, ensuring records are accurate and up to date on a daily basis.
  • Assist in maintaining fire safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, etc.) and ensure they are in good working order.
  • Provide fire watch during hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, etc.) operations and ensure all fire prevention measures are in place.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices and safety regulations.
  • Respond to fire-related incidents and emergencies, including initiating evacuation procedures if necessary.
  • Responsible for inspecting and cleaning on top of fire extinguishers.
  • Inspect eye wash stations and report.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when required.
  • Assist in conducting safety drills and ensuring employees are familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to ensure overall safety compliance.
