Employment offers and start dates are subject to contract approval and may be modified or rescinded based on contract outcomes. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Firefighter, you will provide fire protection, rescue response, emergency standby support, and operational readiness services in fast-paced training and operational environments. This role supports the safety and readiness of federal training missions by responding to fire incidents, vehicle extrication/stabilization events, rescue operations, and emergency standby assignments in complex training settings. Key responsibilities include: Respond to fire incidents, rescue operations, vehicle extrication/stabilization events, and emergency standby assignments in support of training and operational missions. Support emergency response efforts involving fire suppression, hazard mitigation, scene safety, and operational coordination. Conduct daily readiness inspections of fire apparatus, rescue equipment, emergency response tools, and associated supplies to ensure operational preparedness. Operate fire apparatus and emergency vehicles safely in emergency and non-emergency situations across training environments and public roadways. Assist with emergency scene management and coordinate effectively with fire, EMS, and emergency response personnel during incidents and training activities. Support emergency evacuations, including assisting with scene safety, access control, and landing zone establishment when needed. Maintain readiness and proficiency in firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials awareness, and vehicle extrication operations. Complete accurate, timely incident reports, equipment documentation, and required operational records. Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, coworkers, and over radio systems in high-tempo environments. Maintain all required certifications, competencies, and ongoing training requirements for the role. Requirements Job Requirements and Qualifications: Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant emergency services or firefighting experience. Firefighter I & II Certification (DoD, IFSAC, and/or ProBoard). Virginia EMT certification or higher, valid and current. Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Current Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification. Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Awareness and Operations certification. Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Level 2 certification or equivalent approved course. Vehicle Extrication Operations certification/training. Ability to maintain state-mandated continuing education requirements. Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR). Ability to obtain and maintain HSPD-12 badge/access credentials for federal facility access. Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening. Preferred: Prior experience supporting fire protection or standby response operations within training environments, ranges, or specialized facilities. Previous experience supporting federal, government, military, law enforcement, or mission-critical training environments. Experience working in high-tempo, multi-agency, or operational response environments. Physical Requirements & Work Environment: This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work in dynamic training and operational environments. Duties involve prolonged standing, walking, running, climbing, kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment, including heavy lifting with assistance when necessary. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve responding across varied terrain and environments, including training facilities, ranges, tactical areas, roadways, and emergency response scenes. Employees must be able to safely operate emergency vehicles and equipment and respond effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure situations, with or without reasonable accommodation. This role may involve exposure to loud noises, smoke, hazardous materials, moving vehicles, firearms training environments, adverse weather conditions, and other operational hazards associated with emergency response and federal training activities. Schedules may include rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency response coverage based on operational needs.
