Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Fires Formation Digital SME in Canberra will support the Land Network Integration Centre (LNIC) by providing expert digital integration advice for Land Joint Fires and Effects capabilities. The role ensures that new and existing Joint Fires systems integrate effectively within the Land Combat System (LCS) and broader Joint and Coalition environments. What You’ll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: Develop a deep technical understanding of the Land Combat System (LCS) and Joint Fires capabilities, contributing to LCSD artefacts, mission threads, baselines, and broader LNIC knowledge products. Analyse, define, and document digital integration requirements for sensors, deciders, effectors, and related Fires Formation platforms, and produce technical design and solution documentation. Provide technical integration advice and written recommendations to Army Headquarters, Capability Managers, CASG, and other delivery agencies across the One Defence Capability System (ODCS). Support the design, validation, testing, and implementation of digital integration solutions across acquisition stages, including Gate reviews, sustainment planning, and LIF integration assessments. Lead or participate in integration workshops, stakeholder forums, engagement sessions, and innovation exploration activities to ensure consistent, interoperable, and future‑ready LCS modernisation. What You’ll Bring A relevant ICT or Engineering degree (or 10+ years equivalent experience) with strong expertise in ICT system design, networking, software, and distributed systems. Deep knowledge of Long range fires and military C4ISR systems, tactical and strategic networks, Tactical Data Links (TADL), enterprise architecture, CIOG‑accredited systems, autonomous systems and software integration, and AS GxA standards (GVA, LDM, GSA, VSOE). Proven Defence experience, ideally within the Land Domain, with the ability to operate effectively in complex Defence environments. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple technical tasks in fast‑paced settings. Strong independent working capability as a specialist, able to deliver without reliance on a parent company and consistently produce high‑quality technical outcomes. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 with willingness to have this uplifted to a TSPV. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
