Smart Hire, a trusted and locally owned business, has been serving the South-East Melbourne community with quality vehicle rentals, sales, and servicing for over 40 years.
As part of our commitment to excellence in vehicle maintenance and fabrication, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Welder First Class to join our dedicated service team in Oakleigh, Victoria. This is a full-time position offering a salary of $76,515 per year.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in welding and fabrication or a related field.
  • Trade qualification in Fabrication, Welding, or a related field (Certificate III or higher preferred).
  • Proficiency in manual and semi-automated welding techniques, with the ability to work across various metals.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and commitment to WHS standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine job requirements.
  • Perform high-quality MIG, TIG, and arc welding on trailers, vehicle chassis, and light machinery.
  • Fabricate and assemble structural metal components to precise measurements and safety standards.
  • Conduct structural repairs on damaged vehicles and machinery, including frame and tow bar modifications.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect completed work for alignment, strength, and quality, adhering to relevant codes and specifications.
  • Collaborate with other team members in the workshop to deliver reliable and efficient service.
