Our four-diamond 500 all-suite, 45,000 sq foot conference centre & hotel, the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre and Spa is seeking a creative individual to fill the position of 1st Cook.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sous Chef, the 1st Cook will be responsible for creating fabulous meals for our guests daily. This includes creating hot and cold food for the restaurant, brunches, afternoon teas, weddings and general meeting space in the hotel.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Creates product in accordance with standardized recipes and in pre-determined quantity
  • Performs daily checks of all food items to ensure freshness and quality standards
  • Ensures all food products are handled, stored, prepared and served safely in accordance with hotel Food Safety guidelines
  • Actively prevents over production, spoilage and contamination of food items
  • Tastes and evaluates food before serving to ensure that standards are met; consults with the Executive Chef if there are any concerns
  • Sorts, stores and/or moves pastry, dairy products and dry food accordingly

Successful applicants for this position should have the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Culinary Management
  • Red Seal Certification
  • Food Safe Certification
  • 3 – 5 years of cooking experience
  • Availability to work primarily evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work cohesively as a team
  • Must be able to read and execute menu recipes accurately
  • Frequent carrying of up to 50 pound; ability to stand, walk, lift and bend
