JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a First Line Risk and Compliance Lead to join our AXA Ireland Team. In this pivotal role you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing the Operational Risk Framework aligned with regulatory standards and business objectives.
The department’s primary objective is to foster a strong risk and compliance culture across retail operations, ensuring effective control environments, regulatory adherence, and timely remediation of issues. The team aims to support sustainable growth by providing risk and compliance guidance, promoting transparency, and embedding best practices in risk management and governance. Through proactive oversight, stakeholder engagement and collaboration, the department strives to safeguard the firm’s integrity, meet regulatory obligations, and deliver value to customers while maintaining AXA’s values and high performance standards.

You’ll work majority of your week away from home. Away from home means either attendance at one of our head office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.
What you’ll be doing:

The role expects the individual to lead by example in promoting a customer-first, compliant, and high-performing team culture. They are responsible for ensuring effective risk and compliance oversight, regulatory adherence, and the continuous evolution of risk frameworks. A key expectation is to provide expert advice, support decision-making, and drive accountability across the business.

  • Develop and maintain the Operational Risk Framework aligned with AXA and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee day-to-day risk management, including monitoring risk registers, controls, and incident management.
  • Provide timely legal and compliance guidance to support business decisions and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Support the implementation of policies, standards, and controls; lead assurance activities and report on risk and compliance status.
  • Promote a strong risk and compliance culture through stakeholder engagement, coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

  • 5-7 years of total work experience is essential.
  • 3 years of management experience in an insurance business environment is essential, some previous experience in a risk, compliance governance type role is desirable
  • A degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Statistics or other related subject or the equivalent combination of education and experience (Essential).
  • Professional Certificate in Insurance (APA) with commitment to progress further in insurance/compliance exams is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of key processes, structures and controls within the company essential.
  • Knowledge of all relevant regulatory requirements including Consumer Protection Code, Consumer Duty, Minimum Competency Code, Data Protection Acts, relevant applicable general legislation and any other regulatory requirements issued by the Central Bank of Ireland of or the FSA (Essential).
  • An ability to understand, articulate, challenge and influence key stakeholders on risk and compliance related topics, is essential.
  • Enthusiastic approach with a high level of personal drive and energy.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
