Carey is currently accepting applications for the role of First VIII Rowing Coach (Girls). Reporting to the Head of Rowing – Development, this position is responsible for leading and facilitating the strategic direction and performance of the Carey Rowing Program.  This position is essential to the success of the Rowing program, modelling and contributing to a positive team culture and environment. The First VIII Rowing Coach develops, implements and maintains effective training plans to set the squad up for success in competition.  This is a part-time (0.7FTE), fixed-term position, commencing in June 2026.  Learn more about our community: Carey is a leading co-educational school for students from Early Learning to Year 12 (IB & VCE). Our cohort is made up of approximately 2700 students who are supported by over 600 passionate and experienced staff. Our vibrant community is also enriched by a number of dedicated volunteers and engaged alumni. The Carey Rowing Program has a holistic ‘athlete-focussed-coach-led’ approach to the sport. We harness the unique demands of the sport to help students develop teamwork, resilience, commitment and time-management skills that extend well beyond the boat. Our program’s goals are not solely focussed on competitive success. We aim to prepare athletes for future opportunities, with Carey rowers progressing to row and study at American universities and achieving at the highest levels of the sport, including Olympic gold. The role: * Act in line with and model Carey’s values of Care, Respect and Growth at all times, including during interactions with members of the general public. * In consultation with the Head of Rowing Development and Head of Rowing Operations, offer key strategic, coaching and program development initiatives across the Carey rowing program. * Ensure consistency within the Carey rowing program by adopting coaching techniques and technical styles, supporting and engaging in professional development as outlined by the Head of Rowing Development. * Coach the Carey senior first crew to a high standard such that they may compete at a national level. * Manage senior crew selection in consultation with the Head of Rowing Development.  What do I need to succeed? * National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) Level 2 or above (based on the Rowing Victoria Mandatory Coach Accreditation Policy)  * Experience as a high-level School or Club coach  * Prior experience in a similar role in a school setting is desirable  * Current Anaphylaxis Accreditation (based on Ministerial Order 706), First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain)  * Powerboat Licence (or willingness to obtain)  * Current Victorian Endorsed Drivers' licence (or willingness to obtain)  A valid Employee Working With Children Check is a requirement of employment in this position. Responsibilities
The First VIII Rowing Coach is responsible for leading the strategic direction and performance of the Carey Rowing Program. This includes developing effective training plans, coaching the senior first crew to a national standard, and fostering a positive team culture.
