Conditions of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• Must be willing and able to work extended hours as required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Must be willing and able to travel for meetings and work in rural field locations, on lakes and on rivers as required, which may include inclement weather such as extreme cold.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Degree in Biology, Fisheries, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience leading the development and implementation of complex natural resource management actions, plans, programs and projects.
• Experience leading communication and engagement processes with resource users, stakeholders and the public.
• Experience working with Indigenous communities including familiarity with Indigenous Consultation and engagement processes.
• Superior organizational and project management skills including the ability of manage long-term or complex initiatives.
• Knowledge of natural resource management and shared management.
• Strong written communication skills such as drafting management plans, technical reports, advisory notes, and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy, clarity and conciseness.
• Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear manner to a variety of audiences
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships and resolve conflict within internal and external relationships.
• Ability to work independently.

Desired:

• Experience with aspects of commercial fishery management and/or natural resource industry certification.
• Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans.

Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Fisheries Branch, the Fisheries Certification Manager is responsible for the management of the province’s commercial fisheries program, including planning, policy, legisliation, licensing, and reporting. This position is also responsible for leading and coordinating the process of achieving and maitinaing eco-certification of Manitoba’s commercial fisheries. The incumbant will interact with other technical and management staff, as well as, commercial fishing groups Indiginous communities and organizations and stakeholders.
