Description POSITION SUMMARY The Fitness Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the daily operations of the wellness floor at the YMCA, ensuring a high-quality, member-centered experience. This position provides strategic leadership and supervision to wellness attendants fostering a culture of engagement, motivation, and support for all members in their wellness journeys. The Fitness Manager designs, implements, and evaluates programs and incentives that inspire members to achieve their fitness goals while aligning with the YMCA’s mission of promoting healthy living for all. Requirements Leadership & Supervision Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate wellness attendants. Provide ongoing staff development, performance feedback, and coaching to ensure excellence in service delivery. Create and maintain staff schedules that ensure adequate coverage and a positive member experience. Scheduling flexibility to cover staffing gaps as needed. Participation in the MOD (Manager on Duty) schedule. Other duties as assigned. Program Development & Implementation Develop, manage, and evaluate innovative wellness programs, challenges, and incentive-based initiatives to increase member engagement and retention. Partner with other departments such as Membership and Marketing to promote fitness programs and initiatives. Member Engagement Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and motivating environment on the wellness floor. Provide ongoing communication and education to members to support their fitness goals. Address member concerns promptly and effectively, ensuring satisfaction and safety. Operations & Safety Monitor equipment functionality and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed. Maintain cleanliness, safety, and compliance standards across all fitness areas. Ensure all staff are trained and certified in CPR, First Aid, and YMCA safety protocols. Administrative Responsibilities Manage departmental budgets and track program performance metrics. Assist with marketing and promotion of fitness programs and initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in fitness or wellness program management. Nationally recognized fitness certification (e.g., ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA) required. CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required. Proven leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Strong knowledge of fitness trends, wellness programming, and member retention strategies. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to respond to emergency situations. Ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time. Ability to reach, balance, crawl, crouch, bend, kneel, push, and pull. Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate needs.
