Description Scrap Management Industries inc. is looking for a skilled Supervisor/Diesel Mechanic to oversee our maintenance shop and help maintain and repair our fleet of heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Our company runs a high-volume freight operation, and we rely on professional mechanics to keep our trucks DOT-compliant, road-ready, and running at peak performance. Duties/Responsibilities: Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, drivetrains, brakes, suspension, and trailer systems Oversee direct reports and ensure policies are followed Perform routine maintenance, including PMs, oil changes, tire checks, and brake services Utilize diagnostic tools (Cummins Insite, Noregon, etc.) to troubleshoot issues and complete repairs Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with FMCSA standards Maintain acc urate maintenance logs and repair records (digitally) Coordinate with dispatch and operations manager for truck downtime and service scheduling Respond to occasional roadside service calls or after-hours breakdowns (rotation basis) Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Required Skills/Abilities: Experience working on and troubleshooting issues with both heavy mobile equipment and diesel-powered trucks. 2+ years of experience working on Class 7 and 8 trucks (Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, Volvo, etc.) Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical, and emissions systems Experience overseeing others Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic logging devices (ELDs) Must provide your own basic tools (specialty tools provided by shop) Valid driver’s license required; CDL-A is a strong plus ASE Certification preferred but not required Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment Must have thorough understanding of DOT regulations. Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills. Works well independently and with others. Good communication skills. Organized with attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment. Education and Experience: Some vocational or community college with related coursework or equivalent experience, required. Bilingual preferred, not required. Current CDL license a plus. Mobile equipment operating experience a plus. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods standing and walking. Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery. Must be able to visually inspect machines. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
