Description Role and Responsibilities: The Fleet Service Mechanic performs journeyman-level work in repairing, trouble shooting and maintaining a wide variety of diesel, and electric powered equipment. The Technician must know a wide range of mechanical procedures to include electrical, fuel systems, brakes, suspensions, preventative maintenance, welding, and any other related work. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering and hydraulics. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance. Provides emergency roadside services, minor repairs, and assists in vehicle recovery. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements High School diploma or GED equivalent. Successfully pass drug screening. Must have a minimum of 2 years journey-level mechanic experience. Must be able to provide your own hand tools in both standard and metric and up to a minimum of ½ inch drive. Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, as required. Preferred Skills: D.O.T. Class A CDL preferred. Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.) Must be able to work independently.
