As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.
We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Fleet Technical Trainer on a full or part time, permanent basis based in Birmingham with regular travel across all Depots.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE

  • An Engineering background is essential.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of working on traction & rolling stock.
  • Hold a relevant teaching qualification and have experience of delivering learning or be willing to work towards a teaching qualification. (Train-the-Trainer, TAQA, L&D Level 3, etc)
  • Hold an assessor’s qualification and have experience in carrying out vocational / occupational assessments or be willing to work towards an assessor’s qualification. (D32/33, A1, TAQA, L&D Level 3, etc)
  • Hold a verification qualification and have experience in Internal Verification or be willing to work towards a verification qualification. (IQA, L&D level 4, etc)
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • I.T literate (using Microsoft, Word, Excel and Access)

Responsibilities
  • Work to the instruction of the Fleet Training & Competence Manager as directed and within competence
  • Ensure technical training is delivered to plan and all competence assessment targets are met
  • Responsible for training all Fleet colleagues in Safety, Technical, Non-Technical & Train Presentation aspects of Traction and rolling Stock and depot equipment
  • Develop and deliver high quality, effective technical training courses as required
  • As required, provide initial and re-certification training for depot plant and equipment, to include cranes, vehicle lifting jacks and other specific depot equipment
  • Attend and contribute to both training and assessment standardisation meeting
  • Continuously improving the Training Department Standards.
