Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you passionate about meaningful public involvement in research and excited by the opportunity to ensure diverse voices shape groundbreaking work to combat one of humanity’s greatest threats? Join us as the Fleming Initiative’s Public Engagement and Involvement Officer.
You will be contributing to the crucial new Public Engagement and Involvement workstream of the Fleming Initiative, a new partnership led by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. We’re tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through an innovative approach combining programmes of research, behaviour change, public engagement, and policy. At the heart of this vision is a purpose-built Fleming Centre London, due to open in 2028, where visitors can discover and contribute to the past, present and future of AMR research.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING

You will champion and help deliver meaningful public involvement across all Fleming Initiative activities, ensuring the public voice is valued and heard by those tackling the AMR crisis.

You will:

  • Champion the Fleming Initiative’s approach of putting the public at the heart of our work
  • Build and nurture a diverse network of community organisations and public members who will contribute to research, development and engagement activities
  • Establish and support a diverse PE&I Committee to ensure public needs and interests shape all aspects of Fleming Centre work
  • Train and empower researchers and policymakers to deliver meaningful PE&I activities, creating resources built on best practice
  • Connect the Fleming team with local communities to contribute to plans for the Fleming Centre’s public exhibition and events space
  • Develop evaluation processes to capture and share the impact of PE&I, contributing to the evidence base around public involvement and AMR
