SUMMARY: The Flex Process Technician is responsible for learning and supporting operations across the process, logistics, and laboratory areas of the facility. This role is designed to cross-train in multiple departments with the skills to fulfill the duties of Process Technician II, Logistics Technician I, and Lab Technician I roles, covering vacancies as scheduled. The Flex Process Technician will assist with equipment monitoring, sample collection and testing, material handling, and general housekeeping while sharpening the skills necessary to support the entirety of the plant.    RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties include, but are not limited to: * Maintain a safe, clean work environment by observing all local, state and federal regulations regarding health, safety and the environment.  This includes all established plant and lab safety practices to ensure good housekeeping/hygiene practices are maintained.  * Issues and maintains Safe Work Permits and associated special permits for all work being completed in assigned area.  * Follow all safety, environmental, and health protocols; report any concerns or incidents promptly  * Provide assistance to multiple departments with the ability to flex from days to nights as scheduled.   * Assist in auditing and updating SOPs, company policies, procedures, and training documents. Operations Duties: * Collect samples, diagnose issues, prepare work orders, and oversee necessary repairs.  * Operate process controls and machinery; make adjustments to maintain performance within specified limits.  * Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly; adjust or report as necessary to maintain product quality.  * Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to uphold safety, quality, and consistency standards.  Conduct annual reviews of SOPs for accuracy and update changes.  * Troubleshoot operational issues; escalate complex problems to supervision.  Ensure operating parameters are maintained within required limits.  * Monitor equipment performance; coordinate routine repairs and preventive maintenance.  * Implement corrective actions based on lab results and input from Control Board Operator.  * Participate in start-up and shutdown procedures.  * Coordinate with external contractors and internal teams during maintenance events  * Assist with turnaround maintenance and special projects.  Logistics Duties:  * Obtain a sample of each incoming feedstock load and make judgement decisions on quality, to determine if further testing is required prior to unloading.  * Transfer raw material from delivery vehicles to designated storage tanks; understand the proper procedure for unloading tankers and know the consequences if not vented properly, and product contamination if transferred into incorrect storage tanks.  * Understand and follow BQ9000 policy and procedures for all pre-loading inspections.  * Transfer finished fuel and co-products from designated storage tanks to delivery vehicles; understand the proper procedure for loading tankers and consequences if not vented properly.  * Will be required to operate a forklift, skid steer, utility vehicle, pickup truck, and/or other forms of delivery or moving materials.  * Use knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques to maximize the effective shipping and receiving of goods.  * Review, release, and record shipping information, shipment results and handle bills of lading.  * Perform continuous improvement projects to the tank farm and logistics areas.   Lab Technician Duties: * Perform routine wet and instrumental chemistry analyses in accordance with established analytical methods and laboratory operating procedures.  * Prepare standards and perform calculations.  * Operate quality control system by entering data, observing control charts.  * Review standardization, quality control and sample analytical data for accuracy.  * Review, release and record sample results.  * Collect and run samples in the plant as directed.    REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty/function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the work environment, knowledge, skills, and/or ability required or preferred.  Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions as listed below. * High school diploma or equivalent required  * Valid driver’s license with acceptable MVR required.  * Ability to learn and apply process parameters and control system functions while maximizing plant production yields.  * Capable of following detailed procedures utilizing complex data and responding to off-normal process conditions  * Ability to maintain focus and respond to alarms during changing conditions to complete tasks as assigned.  * Comfortable using computer-based control systems and interpreting data trends  * Must possess a basic understanding of proper material handling, especially acid/base chemistry and the effects of mixing the two improperly  * Ability to read and write effective reports and business correspondence using standard Microsoft Office products.   * Oral presentation skills must be effective with all levels of management.  * Refinery experience preferred  * Prior experience in petroleum or chemical industries preferred.  * Completion of necessary training to become HAZWOPER certified is preferred.  * Attendance of High Angle and confined space rescue as scheduled is preferred.    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to move from place to place to all areas of production. Must be able to climb ladders or platforms. Must be able to wear all safety and production related equipment.   WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is based in assigned units of a manufacturing plant, with frequent mobility through all areas of production. The laboratory setting presents possible exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and flammable substances. This position will be exposed to all outside climate conditions.  The noise level varies widely within different areas of production.    NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Schedule and working hours will vary based on the needs of the plant.
