The Department The Department of Philosophy at Durham University seeks to appoint talented early-career philosophers as Part Time Teachers to support our UG programmes . The Philosophy Department at Durham University has concentrations of research expertise across four research clusters: Aesthetics, Ethics and Politics; History of Philosophy; Mind, Language and Metaphysics and Science, Medicine, and Society. It is home to the Centre for Humanities Engaging Science and Society (CHESS) and has strong links with other interdisciplinary research centres and institutes at Durham. At postgraduate and undergraduate levels, our students can choose from a wide range of teaching, spanning the whole discipline of philosophy and the history and philosophy of science and medicine. The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers. They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required. Role Responsibilities Part-Time Teacher/Teaching Assistant (Tutorials) Casual Grade 6 Under instruction and following appropriate training: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the subject area Plan, prepare, and deliver tutorials to individual students or small groups from an established module Maintain class registers and monitor attendance Provide and update syllabus materials Assist with curriculum development and the production of L&T materials Undertake formative marking according to published criteria Provide oral and/or written feedback to students as per departmental requirements Please note: For PHIL1091- Philosophical Traditions several tutorials in Michaelmas term will require some knowledge of Philosophical Logic, therefore we may discuss at interview stage your existing knowledge of Philosophical logic.
