Grade 6 – Research Assistant Pool Maximum of 6 hours per week We are seeking to appoint a pool of research assistants to employ on a casual basis, as and when required throughout the academic year. By applying to this position, you will be entered into a pool of applicants that will be contacted as and when an opportunity arises in the department. For example, when an academic member of staff has a successful research grant and requires some assistance. Generic Responsibilities Undertake research as appropriate to the field of study including conducting literature reviews, collecting, and analysing data Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations Manage and respond to project related email. Attend project meetings, seminars and other meetings as required To assist in contributing to the development of research objectives and proposals Person Specification: Essential A good first degree in Sociology, Criminology, Social Work or relevant cognate subject Ability to manage time effectively and work to strict deadlines. Good written and oral communication in English; Support and agreement from your supervisory team. Have successfully completed an appropriate Research Methods module; Experience of analysing quantitative and qualitative research data (applicants should specify if they have a preference for one rather than another) Currently engaged or registered to begin in a programme of doctoral level research study at Durham University Currently undertaking a programme of research in an area which aligns with one of the department’s five research themes (please specify which in your application). Desirable Good organisational and facilitation skills (e.g. event organisation, facilitating groups) Experience in conducting basic academic research or providing research assistance, including the use of standard research methods.
